We all have those days where everything feels overwhelming and the stress levels seem to be through the roof. As a clinical naturopath, I’ve seen firsthand the toll that chronic stress can take on both our physical and mental well-being. That’s why I’m passionate about sharing simple, effective self-care hacks that can help you navigate those stressful moments with more ease and grace.

Here are some of my go-to self-care strategies that you can incorporate into your daily routine to help manage stress and promote overall wellness.

  1. And Breatheeeeee

It might sound too simple to be effective, but deep breathing is one of the quickest ways to calm your mind and reduce stress. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a moment to close your eyes and focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale through your mouth for a count of four. Repeat this cycle a few times and notice how your body begins to relax.

  1. Get Moving

Physical activity is a five-star way to combat stress. You don’t need to hit the gym for an intense workout; even a short walk around your neighbourhood can make a big difference. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. Find a type of movement that you enjoy, whether it’s yoga, dancing, or a brisk walk, and make it a part of your daily routine.

  1. Nourish Your Body

What you eat can have a profound impact on how you feel. On particularly stressful days, it’s tempting to reach for comfort foods that might not be the healthiest choices. Instead, try to fuel your body with nutritious foods that provide sustained energy. Think fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. And don’t forget to stay hydrated! For an added boost, consider integrating Glowable’s Adapt into your routine. This all-in-one formula plugs the gap that our day-to-day meals can miss. This formula contains a blend of adaptogens and micronutrients, all selected for their powerful and proven benefits in combating chronic stress and overwhelm.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment without judgment. It can be a powerful tool for managing stress. Try to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine through activities like meditation, journaling, or simply taking a few minutes to savour a cup of tea. Being mindful helps you stay grounded and can prevent stress from taking over.

  1. Set Boundaries

One of the biggest sources of stress is feeling like you have to be everything to everyone. It’s important to set boundaries and learn to say no when necessary. Prioritise your tasks and focus on what’s truly important. Don’t be afraid to delegate or ask for help when you need it. Remember, taking care of yourself is not selfish—it’s essential.

  1. Connect with Loved Ones

Spending time with loved ones can be a great stress reliever. Whether it’s a phone call with a friend, a family dinner, or a cuddle with your pet, social connections can provide emotional support and a sense of belonging. Make an effort to nurture these relationships, especially on days when you’re feeling particularly stressed.

  1. Create a Relaxation Routine

Having a relaxation routine can help signal to your body that it’s time to unwind. This could be a warm bath, reading a book, or listening to calming music. Find what works best for you and make it a part of your evening ritual. This routine can help you transition from the busyness of the day to a more peaceful state, promoting better sleep and overall wellbeing.

  1. Use Natural Remedies

As a naturopath, I’m a big advocate for using natural remedies to support wellness. Essential oils like lavender, chamomile, and peppermint can be used in a diffuser or added to a bath to promote relaxation. Herbal teas, such as chamomile or lemon balm, can also be soothing and help reduce stress.

Remember, self-care isn’t a one-time activity; it’s a daily practice. By incorporating these simple self-care hacks into your routine, you can better manage stress and improve your overall quality of life. Listen to your body, honour your needs, and take time for yourself—you deserve it!
