Cleveland local empowering small business owners

Janet Camilleri’ in Brisbane

Armed with a teaching background and years of copywriting experience, I launched my digital marketing agency, Front Page SEO, to help small businesses rise to the top of Google. Otherwise known as SEO (short for Search Engine Optimisation), it’s a great way to get more clicks, calls and clients, and ultimately, a more profitable business.

In the world of online marketing, SEO is the new frontier and there are rich rewards to be had. But being unregulated, means that it has also been exploited and the industry has a tarnished reputation as a result. Anyone can call themselves an SEO expert, and many small businesses have been badly burnt, paying thousands for very little return – or even worse, incurring a Google penalty and disappearing from search altogether due to dodgy “black hat” techniques.

And it’s just not right! I started my business as I could see there is a huge need for SEO to be more transparent and accessible. I’ve made it my mission to equip other business owners with enough knowledge to take advantage of this effective marketing method, whether they want to outsource or DIY.

That’s why we do things differently at Front Page SEO. My (mostly) Brisbane-based team and I all work from home; we are happy to engage with the small and micro-businesses other agencies ignore; and we pride ourselves on being genuine, keeping our clients informed every step of the way.

I feel incredibly proud to run a successful female-led business. I experienced a lot of trauma growing up (a story for another time, but you can read a bit about it here), and never had a strong female role model. Developing the confidence and skills to run my own business has certainly had its challenges – but I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am today (with the support of my amazing husband and my team).

With all this in mind, it was a huge honour last month to learn I was a finalist in the prestigious 2024 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards – in the hotly contested Marketing category.

I feel it is so important to celebrate women in business. To lift each other up and inspire younger women and female entrepreneurs to know that they can achieve their goals, no matter what their upbringing, their background, or their self-beliefs. Many of the small businesses I work with are also female-led, and I count it a privilege to have the opportunity to help them thrive.

Each day I’m excited about helping other businesses to find success by getting more leads online – but it doesn’t stop there.

Because I have a successful business, I can employ others. This provides them with income, job satisfaction and ongoing professional development, as well as the convenience of working from home. This in turn has a positive impact on their families, local community, and economy.

I also have a zero-offshoring policy; I am passionate about creating opportunities right here in Australia.

By educating business owners, via workshops, blogs, social media etc, my business helps push the SEO industry to become more accountable. With SEO a predominantly male industry (in fact, did you know only 1 in 5 Australian SEO professionals are women!?), I am also striving to lead the way for more female involvement through my own example.

My vision is to continue pushing the boundaries of success in small business and SEO, one Brisbane business at a time.
