Baseball Charity to Hit a Home Run for Sick Kids

The Brisbane Bandits, in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital Foundation will be hosting the inaugural ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ at Viticon Stadium Holloway Field, Newmarket on the 10th of December 2022. The objective of this charity event is to raise awareness around children’s health, and soft toys purchased at the game will be donated directly to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Baseball game attendees will be able to purchase soft toys from Bocchetta Plush Toys, who will have a wide range of toys available on the day. The ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ will happen around 5pm – as soon as the last out of the 1st game is made – when spectators will toss their purchased teddies onto the field. The soft toy toss concept is gaining momentum worldwide, and has been adopted by many sports, including basketball, soccer, and ice hockey, which holds the world record for the number of stuffed animals tossed onto the ice, a staggering 52,341 soft toys.

The charity day will consist of an exciting double header between the Brisbane Bandits and Geelong-Korea, with the first game of the double header starting at 2pm, and the second game starting at 6:30pm, shortly after the ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ event.

Brisbane Bandits owner, Kevin Cuyler, said “The Teddy Bear Toss event provides the community with an opportunity to give back to kids doing it tough, not to mention their families. Combining this with a sport like baseball galvanises players, sponsors, and attendees in working towards a central goal, giving back to sick kids.”

Across the past financial year, the Children’s Hospital Foundation has invested $20 million into direct impact for sick kids, helping to fund ground-breaking research, crucial new equipment and patient and family support services at Queensland Children’s Hospital and across Children’s Health Queensland.

Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Lyndsey Rice said the Foundation is humbled to have the support of the Brisbane Bandits community to continue to help sick and injured kids.

“Everything we do for sick kids is made possible in no small part through the generosity and support of our amazing community and it’s incredible to see the power that people can have when they come together for events like the ‘Teddy Bear Toss’.

“Every dollar raised from the purchase of a teddy plays a vital role in helping Queensland’s sickest kids and their families through some of their most challenging days, and we’re extremely humbled for the support of the Brisbane Bandits community,” she added.

The Community can be involved in the ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ charity event by attending the game on the day, and then purchasing a soft toy, which will then be donated to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
