Patsy Tierney high leg kicked her way to fame becoming the 1998 World Sport Aerobics Champion. In an era of lycra and leg warmers, she transitioned from part time aerobics instructor to world number one. Patsy was young, fit and at the top of her game and then motherhood happened.
Suddenly thrust into the role of a single mum of two under two-year-olds, Patsy began to struggle with her mental health. Diagnosed with depression she survived on a mix of alcohol and antidepressants. No longer exercising or eating well, Patsy lost her trademark self-confidence and felt isolated and lost. Then on a whim she signed up for a fun run and everything changed. With something positive to work towards, Patsy felt the benefit in all areas of her life. She started exercising regularly, eating well and once again found joy in being a Mum. And more than this it inspired her to help other mums improve their physical and mental health and Fit Mumma was born.
As a social enterprise Fit Mumma aims to provide mums with unique fitness events as well as connecting them with a supportive community. In May 2023 she held the first Fit Mumma Classic, a functional fitness competition where over 100 mums competed in 3 workouts and a final. Patsy is currently gearing up for the 2024 event this time to be held at CrossFit Iron Barbell, Logan. With 160 Mums already registered, as well as many others taking part in virtual fun runs and online challenges, Patsy’s dream of positively impacting the lives of thousands of mums is becoming a reality.
