With summer just around the corner, online pool marketplace Poolz has scoured the nation for Australia’s best pool.
As part of the annual Poolz Awards, 165 of Australia’s best pools have been nominated across 24 categories for a total of almost 900 entries including Best Hamptons-Style Pool, Best Pool on a Steep Slope and Most Expensive Pool (pool builds over $300,000).
Entries have been submitted from right across Australia, with Queensland and New South Wales home to the most nominees, in line with statistics showing these states, along with Western Australia, have the highest pool ownership. According to Roy Morgan, almost a quarter (24%) of regional Queensland residents live in a home with a pool, and around a fifth (19%) of Brisbane, 17% of Perth and 16% of Sydney residents have a swimming pool or spa at home.
Shipping container pools are among some of the most jaw-dropping nominees this year, including this Samsonvale (QLD) contender for Best Pool on a Steep Slope, this gravity defying lap pool in Buderim (QLD) and this cantilevered container pool in Doonan (QLD).
While others look more like luxury resorts than suburban pools including this Hunters Hill (NSW) pool which is in the running for Best Fibreglass Pool, this Mornington Peninsula (VIC) designer plunge pool, this Brighton (VIC) lap pool which sits adjacent to a tennis court and fire pit, this Baldivis (WA) backyard beauty complete with slide and aqua ledge loungers, and this chic Hamptons-style design in Toodyay (WA).
After last year’s winner – a modern Melbourne masterpiece aptly-named ‘Aqua Paradise’ – won in part due to its glass window and a viewing panel which offered crystal-clear underwater viewing, there are some stylish entries in the Best Glass Window Pool category this year, including this plunge pool with views over Clontarf (NSW) and this pool and spa overlooking the waterways of Mermaid Waters (QLD).
This Kallista (VIC) pool and this stunning Seaforth (NSW) infinity pool also highlight the exquisite effect of seamlessly incorporating a modern pool into a contemporary home.
In the second annual Poolz Awards, the most popular category has been Best Modern Pool with almost all of the nominees entered in this category, followed by Best Family Pool, Best Pool and Entertainment Area, Most ‘Insta’ Worthy Pool and Best Pool and Landscaping.
A new category in the Poolz Awards this year is a people’s choice award with a twist. The Pool Owners Australia Top Pick will be chosen by the 150,000 members of the Pool Owners Australia Facebook community, which is the largest group of pool owners and enthusiasts in the country.
In addition, anyone can have their say in the people’s choice voting for Best Fibreglass Pool, Best Concrete Pool and Best Plunge Pool until November 22, 2024, at www.poolz.com.au/awards/swimming-pool-awards.
While a panel of industry experts will judge the 20 main pool categories on form, function and first impressions. The winners will be announced on December 1, the first day of summer.
Founder and CEO of Poolz Tony Loxton said the awards were a chance to show off Australia’s world-leading pool design.
“From Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Australian pools offer the best seat in the house and some of the best views on offer right around Australia. A pool has become the sought-after cherry-on-top for any homeowner wanting to take their house to the next level and create a sublime oasis on par with a luxury resort. Since the pandemic, pools have become a national obsession – one in seven of us has a pool – and these awards highlight the best of the best,” Tony said.
