Retirement living expert overhauls industry approach

With an ageing population, a housing shortage and a cost of living crisis, Queensland Retirement Living has been launched this month, set to overhaul the industry approach and streamline services for families and retirees.

Amanda Adams, Director of Queensland Retirement Living (QRL) said a personalised and supportive approach to retirement living was needed to ease the transition and clean up the grey areas associated with retirement options.

“The progress from family home to retirement community is not black and white. There is confusion between contracts, disclosure, settlement, management fees, buy-in and buy-out options – and it’s often occurring during a challenging time, including health issues or financial stress,” she said.

Ms Adams, who was the 2023 Property Council of Australia’s, Queensland Retirement Sales Person of the Year, said QRL has been created to prioritise clarity, personalised guidance, and the overall wellbeing of its clients, with expertise and empathy.

“We will transform the retirement journey for seniors across Queensland, to ensure our clients can enjoy their retirement without financial worries.

“We focus on maximising the enjoyment and longevity of their retirement years by handpicking the best suited retirement community, tailoring the choice to both financial and lifestyle needs.”

Ms Adams said it was time for a new era of retirement living with recent studies revealing two-thirds of Australian retirees are concerned about the rising cost of living, with 53 percent becoming more cautious in their spending.

In contrast, retirees living in villages experience less financial stress, as many of the wellbeing and lifestyle facilities are included in the retirement village experience.[1]

For many seniors, transitioning to a retirement community is an ideal choice. Whether they seek more social connections, enhanced mental and physical wellbeing, improved safety and security, or a lower-maintenance lifestyle, the move from their family home to a retirement community is a significant and positive step,” she said.

QRL simplifies the journey for time-pressed clients and their families by offering comprehensive guidance, curated resources, and connections with trusted partners in the retirement industry.

“Over the last decade, I’ve seen many families feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information and the emotional weight of the transition and decisions involved.

“By providing expert guidance and personalised support, we help our clients navigate these challenges to make confident, informed decisions about their retirement living options. We also provide the tools and resources to connect and communicate with the family as well, as there’s often more than one person making the final decisions,” she said.
