I went from being a tradie to a successful full-time artist within a matter of years. Now, Chris Riley Art is passionate about helping other artists create the thriving creative business they’ve always dreamed about.
Creativity and a desire to make things look good has always been an important part of my life. As a kid there were sketchbooks and drawings everywhere around me. I had dabbled with paintings in my late teens, but life pushed me towards a career as a panel beater, and so I gave up painting and drawing.
It wasn’t until my late 20’s that I picked up a paintbrush again, after struggling to find an artwork for our apartment. I painted one myself, and the feedback from friends and family was overwhelmingly positive. When my wife Tracy suggested I begin painting for a living, that idea made me happier than my job at the time. I love to paint, so why not?
From selling my pieces at markets, to quitting my job and painting full time, then opening my first studio space in East Brisbane, to now running a studio space and gallery at our Coorparoo location – it’s been an incredible ride! After assisting local artists through the studio, Chris Riley Art is now developing an online course to help other Australian artists to build a successful creative business and live their dream.
Chris Riley Art, at 60 Cavendish Road Coorparoo, is a business born out of frustration; the frustration of not being able to access original art, and instead being flooded with cheap, unoriginal prints. Chris Riley Art is creating a name within Australia for colourful, palm-springs inspired original paintings. We don’t create prints of any of our artworks – everything is original. People can book an appointment through the website to visit the studio, or view artworks next door at MidModBrisbane, open Wednesday-Sunday 9-2.
