Jasmine O’Reilly has never been one to do things by halves. In 2019, at 29 years old and expecting her first child, she made the bold decision to leave behind a steady corporate career. Her goal? To test the waters in Project Management as a side hustle while building her ultimate dream: her own consultancy.
By early 2020, the world was shutting down in lockdowns, but for Jasmine, it was the perfect moment to reflect and build. As she put it:
“When the world paused, I finally had time to think about why so many transformation projects failed people. I saw a real gap – everyone was talking about digital change, but no one was talking about the humans in it.”
Drawing on over 15 years of experience across healthcare, finance, education, and telecommunications, Jasmine recognised a critical issue: Australian organisations were using rigid, box-ticking frameworks like PRINCE2 or Agile without genuine clarity, alignment, or meaningful stakeholder engagement.
Determined to do things differently, she launched LVL Up Consulting in April 2020 – from her kitchen bench. Her mission was simple but ambitious: to make change delivery human-centred and business-aligned, not just bureaucratic.
Building a Movement on Clarity and Connection
From day one, LVL Up’s message was clear: truly valuable organisational change needs three non-negotiables:
- Clarity: Every task must tie directly to strategy.
- Alignment: Leaders, teams, and sponsors must share purpose.
- Impact: Real business outcomes matter more than busywork.
Jasmine didn’t just talk the talk. Through workshops, LinkedIn videos (like her Project Leadership Tips series), and local events, she pushed for a shift in how businesses approached transformation. Clients noticed. Her approach wasn’t about delivering a project and walking away; it was about building relationships and lasting capability.
As Jasmine explains:
“People want to feel involved. They want to understand the why. That’s what drives real change – not another spreadsheet or status meeting.”
Scaling the Vision: The Outlier Group Is Born
By early 2024, it became clear that LVL Up had grown beyond its original scope. What began as a boutique consultancy focused on human-centred project delivery was now supporting increasingly complex transformations across sectors. Jasmine knew the model had to evolve.
That evolution took shape in The Outlier Group – a bold step forward, not just a new name. The rebrand reflected a broader ambition: to become a national force for purposeful, people-first change across strategy, delivery, and capability building.
“LVL Up was about proving that you can do consulting differently,” Jasmine explains. “The Outlier Group is about scaling that difference – embedding it into organisations so deeply that it becomes part of their DNA.”
This wasn’t a fresh start. It was a strategic expansion – from delivering exceptional projects to reshaping how change is led, taught, and sustained across Australia.
More Than Project Delivery
Today, The Outlier Group is no longer just about delivering projects. It has evolved in response to growing demand from clients who need more than traditional, one-dimensional consulting. Organisations are looking for partners who can help them choose the right projects, lead change effectively, and build internal capability that endures.
To meet these challenges, The Outlier Group has developed a set of specialist streams:
- The Project Practice remains the foundation, focused on delivering complex, high-stakes transformation using human-centred, outcomes-first methods. It’s not about running projects for the sake of it, but making sure they deliver real value.
- The Change Practice is designed to transform how Change Management is understood and applied in Australia. Rather than treating it as an afterthought or a set of comms templates, it positions change as a complex, multi-layered discipline requiring rigour and genuine capability-building. This practice offers structured frameworks, cohort-based training, and certificate-level programs aimed at leaving lasting expertise within organisations.
- The Strategy Practice responds to a common problem: too many projects are started without asking if they’re the right projects. This stream supports executives to prioritise work that aligns with their strategy and purpose, avoiding waste and ensuring resources deliver the greatest impact.
United by Outlier Thinking: A Clear Path of Expansion
What truly ties these practices together is a shared philosophy Jasmine O’Reilly calls Outlier Thinking. It’s more than a set of methods or tools – it’s a mindset and a community. It unites clients and consultants who want to move beyond box-ticking and legacy frameworks, who believe change should be deeply human and genuinely valuable.
As Jasmine puts it:
“We’re not here to do things the way they’ve always been done. We’re here to raise the bar – for our clients, for our industry, and for ourselves.”
Looking ahead, The Outlier Group is planning further expansion into new industries, new regions, and new ways of helping organisations rethink how they approach change. The goal is to grow the movement around Outlier Thinking, inviting more leaders to challenge the status quo and build lasting value for their organisations and communities.
