Strategic Storytelling Meets Solar Education

Queensland Solar

In a sharp, well-timed move, Queensland Solar & Lighting has launched a brand-new illustrated children’s book, *The Mighty Solar Battery*, to coincide with two major moments: the Albanese Government’s re-election and the announcement of the Cheaper Home Battery Rebate.

The release also comes as one of Brisbane’s most well-known radio shows prepares to launch a children’s book of their own. That local inspiration, paired with the momentum of the national battery rebate, created the perfect setting for this creative follow-up to *The Mighty Solar Panel*.

“I figured, what better time to release the sequel?” says Alan Kemp, founder of Queensland Solar & Lighting. “Albo had just won the night before, the battery rebate’s back on the national radar, and even Brisbane radio is getting in on the kids’ book action.”

The book follows a group of animated radio hosts who wake up to a citywide blackout after a cyclone. With their breakfast show off-air and no power in sight, they get a surprise call from “Albo,” who tells them about the new battery rebate. A local solar installer soon arrives to restore power using a rooftop battery – just in time for the show to go on, and for the hosts to begin writing a book of their own

While lighthearted, the story is grounded in a real issue: most solar systems stop working during blackouts unless they’re paired with a battery. The goal was to explain that simply, with a little Brisbane flavour.

*The Mighty Solar Battery* is being gifted exclusively to QSL customers who install solar or batteries in 2025. A downloadable version will be available via the company’s website. Alan Kemp and Queensland Solar & Lighting have been serving Brisbane since 2012, and this latest creative spin is part of their continued commitment to educating the community about solar – and keeping it fun
