As the stepparent of a child with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, understanding what it is like to navigate life with a disability that impacts mobility hits home for Kirsty. Participating in the CEO Wheelie Challenge last year helped Kirsty to experience a bit of what life is like for her stepson navigating footpaths, through crowds, crossing streets, accessing buildings and travelling on buses in a wheelchair.
In 2024, accessibility in the workplace is still a significant challenge with unfortunately more than two in five working-age people with disability who have experienced discrimination reporting their employer as the most likely source (40%), followed by their work colleagues (35%). The initiative aims to broaden understanding of the limitations and challenges faced by people living with a psychical disability.
Taking part again in this year’s CEO Wheelie Challenge (August 30), Chief Executive Officer at AITPM, Kirsty Kelly, is available to discuss the mobility challenges that people with disabilities face every day in navigating in and around Australian cities and transport systems, as well as urge other C-suite executives to think about how to improve their workplace accessibility.
